1. The low season is actually the best time to visit museums, galleries and other sights in Ljubljana. There are no queues lined up in front of ticket offices and you can see the sights in peace and quiet, without rushing. And to top it all off, the best restaurant tables are available without having to wait long.

2. Winter wonderland. If you find Ljubljana beautiful in the summer, you must see in the winter as well. Not only at the height of the festive season, but also in February, when the roofs in Ljubljana are usually covered in snow and the nearby lakes are turned into natural ice rinks with beautiful views.

3. For sports enthusiasts February is a very busy month. Krvavec Ski Resort in the immediate vicinity of Ljubljana, a half-an-hour’s drive from the capital, is only one of the ski resorts that have been attracting lovers of good skiing for a number of years. Enthusiastic cross-country skiers don’t need to go far either – they can enjoy a bit of cross-country skiing in the Ljubljana neighbourhood of Koseze. As for those of you who enjoy walking in nature, a good choice is the nearby hill Sveta Katarina (St. Catherine’s Hill), where you can experience a different view the countryside surrounding Ljubljana.

4. February is far from being a month when the organisers of various events can get a bit of a rest after a busy December. In fact, in February Ljubljana features a large number of events, music and film festivals, as well as events and holidays celebrating Slovenian customs and traditions, including the popular Shrovetide celebrations and 8 February – Prešeren Day, the Slovenian Cultural Holiday.

5. Culinary choices in Ljubljana abound, but in February you may want to treat yourself to some winter-inspired flavours. Mulled wine, home-made goulash, stews, sausages and hot apple strudel to top off a meal are without doubt dishes that will warm you up during a wintertime visit to the Slovenian capital.
