What European Buildings Are Celebrating Alongside Grand Hotel Union?
1. The Solkan Bridge
On the top of our list is the Solkan Bridge, which is not only one of the most popular Slovenian monuments, but is also very important on a global scale, as it – owing to its central arch – ranks among the largest stone bridges in the world.

2. Berlin Cathedral
Berlin Cathedral, whose construction was completed in 1905, is the largest church in Berlin owing to its height of 115 meters. Today, the cathedral is a major centre of the Protestant Church in Germany and attracts countless visitors from Germany itself and elsewhere every year.

3. The Prešeren Monument
The monument in the centre of Slovenia’s capital was unveiled on 10 September 1905 in honour of the greatest Slovenian poet, France Prešeren. The statue, which was created by the sculptor Ivan Zajec, initially came under fierce criticism in ecclesiastical circles, specifically because of a naked muse visible above the poet’s head. However, this outrage over the statue inspired an unknown politically satirical poet, whose poem A Muse and a Bishop – a Ballad of Ljubljana was published in the daily newspaper Osa on 11 November 1905.

4. Stations of the Paris Métro
In the same year, the largest number of metro stations was opened in the world capital of romance. The architectural design of the stations was created by Hector Guimard, who designed two types of stations: stations with a glass roof and without one. Between 1900 and 1912, 141 station entrances were built, whereof 86 are still in use today.

5. Casa Batlló
In 1905, one of the most famous European artists Antoni Gaudi completed one of Barcelona’s most iconic buildings, Casa Batlló. In fact, this is a renovated building in the centre of Barcelona, which is nevertheless considered to be one of Gaudi’s greatest works of art.
